Hello! My name is Antwon Simmons and I am currently teaching Physical Education at Burnett Elementary School. Additionally, I am currently coaching middle school football and baseball in the Douglas County School System. I graduated from the University of West Georgia with my bachelor's degree in Health/PE in May of 2022. Additionally, I am currently working on my master's degree in Health and Physical Education with expected graduation date of December 2023.
Even though I was born in Albany, GA I have moved around a lot during my childhood. I had the opportunity during my childhood to stay in states like Maryland and South Carolina. Nonetheless, I have spent the majority of my life in Georgia. I had the pleasure of being homeschooled by my mother from 1st grade until my junior year of high school. I graduated from Eagle's Landing High School, which is located in McDonough, GA in 2015. I earned my Associate's Degree from Gordon State College in 2019. I was not satisfied with earning an A.S. Degree, so it led me to pursue a higher degree and transfer to the University of West Georgia. The ultimate goal is to earn a Master's Degree in Health and Physical Education. I have been very physically active during my childhood into my younger adulthood. Being the son of a Health/PE teacher, my father stressed the importance of being physically active. He had me start running one mile at the age of 6, which led to me developing a passion for exercise. My father is also the reason that I developed a passion for sports since he was a middle school football and basketball coach in addition to teaching. Throughout, my childhood, I regularly played rec baseball and thoroughly enjoyed being on a team and working towards the goal of winning. During my time at ELHS, I lettered in varsity baseball as I mostly played shortstop and second base. I continue to stay physically active as I enjoy walking around the Greenbelt with my 2-year-old son and jogging two miles regularly. I have a great passion for caring for people. As a follower of Christ, I find it a great joy of putting others first before myself as this is what all people should strive for. Since, I have a passion for athletics, physical activity, and helping others, I felt no profession fit me better than being a Health and Physical Education teacher. Personally, I have trained and helped people live healthier lifestyles. My goal is to be the best Health and Physical Education teacher for my students and help them live healthy lifestyles. Health and Physical Education teachers play an important role in our society to help reduce the obesity rates we now see in our society today. Personally, I am excited to take on this challenge and be a positive role model for the children that I will teach. |
